Flatmaterooms was launched in 2009 by founder and company director Gareth Pugh. Gareth was later joined by co-founder & the technical director Frank Malina.

Over the last couple of years the property prices have risen to unprecedented levels, the rental market then followed with an average 2 bed house costing over 900 GBP a month including bills. As we saw this develop we knew room rental would be a big part of the future. Peoples hard earned money was getting ear marked for bills and rent even before they earned it. So we looked at the market and found there was a need for a full service room rental website. We found our competition to offer limited or even no advice, complicated websites and most of all misleading pricing. So Flatmaterooms decided to make the customer No.1 by creating a totally honest upfront room rental website, a fairer system to both landlords and tenants whilst offering more than our rivals and this is how we did it:
